Employer News:Seattle is the right place for Swansea’s Jade

A world renowned space needle trip, a lunch on the Pike Place market and a visit to the Museum of Pop Culture are only three of the experiences appreciated by Jade Winship from Swansea after having made a unique trip to the United States.

Jade, who works in the Amazon's random center in Swansea, participated in a week's trip with 17 Amazon colleagues from all over the United Kingdom and Ireland as part of a program called I Found the Good Place.

I found that the right place is open to Amazon employees in the United Kingdom and Ireland and ask the simple question-“What makes Amazon the right place for you?”. Employees are invited to explain why they like to work on Amazon and the best stories are selected by a jury, the finalists taking the delivery of a boarding card for the trip of a life.

More than 2,000 Amazon employees submitted their history as part of the campaign and Jade was selected by judges as one of the 18 people who went on the plane in Seattle.

Jade and her colleagues had a week full of action in Seattle, where they visited Amazon's world headquarters, saw Amazon's latest technology during a visit to the execution center and appreciated the sites and sounds of the city's pike place market, the space needle, the pop culture museum and more.

Jade Winship works in the Stow department of Amazon Fulfillment Center in Swansea. After graduating in 2018 with an airport and airport management diploma, she explained how to find her place in the professional world seemed rather intimidating.

“Finding a job was really stressful for me because I have a pretty bad anxiety, and I had the impression that the world of work may not have been for me,” said Jade.

It was her older sister Holly mentioned Amazon for the first time. “She said” No, you're going to come with me to work on Amazon “, so we started Stow together. It made my task easier.”

“Since I started with her, I was comfortable and I felt like” good, I can do that, “she said. Unfortunately, my temporary contract ended, but I was brought back again during Covid, and I really didn't look back since. »»

When Jade was selected for the I Found the Good Place program, the news was a complete shock. “I was called to the office and they were like” Jade, you did something wrong “, and then they were like” you won! ” I never went to America and I certainly never thought that I would win from all those who entered, so it was very exciting. »»

The trip to Seattle opened its eyes to the wider mission of Amazon, in particular around technology and sustainability.

“One of the highlights was to visit the BFI4 robotics site, to see all the new things that they work on. I really like the durability side of things, so I also liked to talk about the packaging, and how they redeveloped it. Amazon is now working with brands to reinvent packaging to make it more sustainable and environmentally friendly, but also more protected by making certain boxes inside. ”.

The magnitude of Amazon's seat surprised her. “The space needle was incredible, but the head office was this huge campus with seven or eight buildings, completely different from where I work. It was a lot of office buildings – I would have loved to stay and learn more about the roles of use that people have there. I also liked the fact that there were free bananas outside!

For someone who fights against anxiety, traveling with 17 foreigners could have been terrifying. But Amazon's community spirit shone. “I was very nervous, but we had a WhatsApp group where we could speak before the trip. I got friends and we sat together on the plane, so it was really nice. It was fun to go with other people who work on Amazon because everyone has their own story, and we all had different jobs but always knew the ins and outs of Amazon. “

Despite this, his anxiety has almost won. “I was so nervous that I almost turned around, but I told myself that everything I had to do was get on the plane and everything would be fine. I'm so happy to have done it. ”

This same determination to take up challenges is now to stimulate Jade's career development. “I just took a data analysis course thanks to the career choice, I think I would perhaps like to progress in this side of things. Or simply go through the levels – I really want to stay at Amazon. ”

For Jade, Amazon has become much more than a simple place of work. “It's like my second house,” she said, a remarkable gap by someone who once thought that the world of work was not for her.

With the support of his sister Holly and countless opportunities to expand his career in Amazon, Jade discovered that sometimes the best trips start when someone believes enough in you so as not to let yourself be abandoned yourself.

David Marcok, head of the site in the Amazon's Amazon's random center in Swansea, added: “Jade is a very popular member of the team here in Amazon in Swansea and we were so happy when we discovered that she had left for Seattle. We are proud to make her represent our team during the trip and I hope she had a brilliant moment. day.”
