The new government mantra to “build, baby, build” must be equaled to a national effort for “competence, baby, competence”, the National House Building Council (NHBC), the chief of the farm, David Campbell, will warn against his speech at the Labor Party Conference on Sunday, urging an urgent action to develop the workforce of the house.
The call comes after the housing secretary, Steve Reed, promised earlier this month to “leave no stone not returned” to deliver 1.5 million new houses, bringing together the developers and house manufacturers to accelerate construction.
Housing targets will vacillate
Mr. Campbell will warn that without a significant and sustained expansion of the workforce of the development of houses, the government's housing objectives will be difficult to achieve.
Speaking during the major reception of the construction, Mr. Campbell will say: “We welcome” Build, Baby, Build “, but we need” skill, baby, competence “to ensure that we have the workforce necessary to build 1.5 million houses.”
NHBC pumps 100 million pounds sterling in Hubs to train 3,000 apprentices per year
As the main supplier of guarantees of new houses in the United Kingdom and quality champion in the construction of houses, NHBC expands its apprenticeship training network and invests 100 million pounds sterling in 12 new multi-skill training centers across the United Kingdom. Each new training center will have about two -thirds of the size of a football field and will lead to 3,000 new apprentices each year in the most necessary trades.
“Without a significant increase in labor, the reuse of the volume of new quality houses will be incredibly difficult,” said Campbell. “More than 250,000 additional construction workers will be necessary by 2028 just to meet the current demand, and even less to build more new houses. This is why we have to move now. You cannot create a qualified workforce overnight. In NHBC, we are committed to being part of the solution.
NHBC warns the construction of quality at risk
The latest NHBC foundation report, Maintain quality in the design and construction of 1.5 million houseshighlights the historic link between the increase in construction volumes and the drop in customer satisfaction. Mr. Campbell will claim that guaranteeing a strong offer of skilled workers is the key to breaking this cycle.
“OUR First Hub Training Multi-Skill, based in LichfieldFunded in partnership with the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB), with the lands provided by Barratt Redrow, is already open and apprentices of training from all walks of life in urgent trades, including masonry, land and site terrent. By forming the next generation of house manufacturers under conditions as close to real sites as possible and to the NHBC standards of the industry, we deliver qualified and quality trades in just 14 to 18 months, almost half of the more traditional educational paths, which equipping them with the skills necessary to be ready to use from the first day.
“With high levels of success and a retention rate of around 90% in our existing poles for masonry, we expect the majority of the 3000 apprentices who will train each year with us to work in the house construction industry and, vitically, to fill houses in the sector.
Vital collaboration to deliver houses and quality
Mr. Campbell will also host recent government initiatives, in particular the investment of 625 million pounds Sterling in construction skills, the creation of the Skills Mission Board construction and the apprenticeship budget of 3 billion pounds Sterling. But he will emphasize that the collaboration between the government and the industry is essential to offer both quality and quantity.
“Together, with continuous collaboration, we can build the houses that this country needs and ensure that they are built according to the highest standards.”
