Employer News :Blackout Technologies Targets Telematics-Integrated Mobile Device Blocking To Combat Smartphone Distraction

Blackout Technologies has launched an update version of its unique mobile devices blocking technology that can be combined with the main fleet and video telematics systems to help eliminate the distraction of smartphones. This integrated approach should reduce the collisions caused by the illegal use of mobile phones from 10 to 20%, preventing many avoidable injuries and deaths.

“There is enormous potential for mobile locking technology based on the SaaS, combined with the complementary technology of the fleet and vehicle cameras solutions to provide additional characteristics of choice and security on the market,” explains Mark Hadley, CEO Blackout technologies. “The use of messaging applications, social media, streaming and internet navigation platforms when driving is supposed to contribute to 40% of all vehicle collisions, so that the risk for drivers and other road users is considerable and must be addressed.”

The single Blackout Technologies blocking solution uses an application installed on the smartphone of a driver that previously connected to a Bluetooth tag in the vehicle. It can now be activated via a telematics unit or a Dash camera, deleting the need for additional equipment or installation costs, while offering road safety, drivers well-being, risk reduction and insurance services.

The application activates when the vehicle is in motion, restricting the encryption tools encrypted, the Internet, the camera and other popular applications, while preventing incoming notifications during the duration of the trip. It also includes a period of two minutes to prevent drivers from using their smartphone when they are in stationary traffic. When a suspected collision has occurred, the technology will send a push notification to the driver in seconds to check the incident and check its well-being with an alert to the fleet manager.

“Traditional telematics can monitor the behavior of high -risk drivers and the latest AI detection cameras can even identify the use of the illegal mobile device, but none of this technology can solve the problem at source. It is only with the integrated blocking functionality that an organization can only delete a large part of the risk temptation, ”adds Hadley.
