Coleg Cambria strengthens his commitment to adult learning by offering more opportunities to people in the northeast of Wales to obtain vital qualifications and digital confidence.
The college has launched a series of English, mathematics and digital literacy sessions in Flontshire, Wrexham and St Asaph, Denbighshire, led by the director of adult programs and on the work Claire Howells and the adult learning agent Dean Nolan.
The courses are delivered in libraries, community centers and awareness publications, with new sites such as the Gwersyllt Cricket Club Park joining an expanding list which includes the Sandy Lane Community (Saltney), the Parkfields community center, ASH Grove (Mold), Rivertown Urc Church (Shotton) Madoc Leisure Center (Acrefair) and Brynteg Library.
“We are committed to eliminating obstacles and meeting learners where they are,” said Claire.
“By organizing courses in accessible community spaces, we facilitate the task of people of all ages and from all walks of life to integrate learning in their daily lives. Whether for work, more in -depth study or personal growth, these skills open the doors. ”
The program offers level 2 qualifications, equivalent to a GCSE Grade C, which remains a key requirement for employment and learning, as well as progression in higher and higher education.
In addition to English and mathematics, Cambria has expanded its digital learning offer, with courses in Google Suite and How to use your tablet Now taking place at the Gresford Methodist Hall, Maximus UK in Wrexham, Little Acton Community Center, Ysgol Maes y Felin, and more.
“We continued to see the figures increase after the cash register, with certain overwriting sites,” said Dean.
“The reversal request is clear. Our goal is to be as flexible as possible, with practical places, connected and favorable to workers as well as those who seek to reintegrate education. ”
The expansion of the college occurs during the adult learners week, coordinated by the Pays de Wales Learning and Work Institute.
The themes of this year – the voices of learners, collaboration and connection, skills for work and progression, essential skills and health and well -being – reflect the spirit of community awareness of Cambria.
The courses are designed around the learner, with personalized plans and the possibility of studying remotely if necessary.
Tutor Kate Clements said: “Not everyone is at the same level. These qualifications are equivalent to the GCSE but shaped by the essential skills of the Wales. We identify the gaps, whether they are fractions or punctuation, and create activities to develop a confidence step by step. Each learner has an individual plan that supports his objectives.”
For Jen Skelly, the lessons offered a chance to refresh skills and connect socially: “I studied at the Yale College in Wrexham a decade ago, and it is a way of keeping my mind active. It's also a great way to meet new people – and I really like mathematics. ”
Abbey Humphreys takes advantage of the opportunity to prepare for a hair and beauty class in Yale: “I already have mathematics but I wanted to brush before I start next year. The tutors are fantastic, and I appreciate it so much, it really helps my confidence. ”
Meanwhile, Luke Roberts considers courses as essential to his career path.
“I work as a support worker for people with learning difficulties, and my goal is to become a home care manager,” he said.
“I have experience and qualifications, but I need English and mathematics to progress. Being dyslexic has made school difficult, but learning in small groups with bisize information has transformed the way I focus. My employer is also very favorable, which makes a huge difference. ”
The success of these courses is also based on community partnerships.
Emma Jones, director of the Park Community Hub, praised collaboration: “After recent investments, we increased the use of the center for local populations. The partnership with Coleg Cambria is a fantastic way to hire residents and support education, skills and well-being in our community. ”
