New research by Hibob, the company behind Bob, the HR platform, transforming how organizations operate in the modern world of work, reveals how a resignation in a small or medium business (SMB) can destabilize an entire business.
One in three employees (31%) SMB left his job because a colleague left, and almost half (48%) would plan to do the same. With more than half (52%) of the British currently working in SMEs, with regard to smoking in the next 12 months, and 10% in the actively research of a new job, the repercussions of turnover could be enormous for employers of SMEs.
Small teams, solid links and large benefits
For SMEs, the effects of turnover go beyond the loss of a single member of the team; They disrupt entire teams of united people. Three -quarters (75%) of SMB workers say they appreciate their work due to culture and objective, and 77% say they have close labor relations with their colleagues. Almost as much (74%) say that these links have become real friendships extending beyond the office.
Consequently, staff departures on SMEs are hard. 71% of employees say that the loss of a member of the team feels like losing a friend and that 60% say that one outing has a significant personal impact. It is not a surprise since 62% of SMB employees say that it is the people who lead them to do their best.
The cost of resignation
The emotional impact of turnover is deeply felt in SMEs, not to mention critical trade consequences. One in seven SMB workers (15%) with hiring responsibilities indicates that they have experienced a turnover of 40% of their workforce in the past year, and 31% point out that a single person replaces more than £ 10,000.
The pressure of the employee bearing is wreaking havoc on SMEs. More than seven in ten SMB workers (71%) with hiring responsibilities indicate that the delays in hiring damage morale and the balance between professional and private life, and that 61% admit that the increase in employees' costs forces them to expect more from the people they retain. For 48%, the pressure makes them lose their sleep by worrying who will then leave.
Culture, recognition and growth
“In small businesses, even a resignation can have a disproportionate impact on production, morale and momentum,” explains Ronni Zehavi, CEO and co-founder of Hibob. “SMEs are fueled by close relationships and a shared meaning, which makes them incredibly resistant – but also more exposed when these dynamics change. Withdraw the talents in this environment does not concern rapid fixes. It is consistency: recognizing people, creating clear paths for growth and investing in a culture that makes them want to stay.”
“Our data show that the employee's objective is moving away from wages alone – towards recognition, career development and the creation of a reason for employees to remain. SMEs who prioritize this will have one step ahead to avoid the cost of resignation ”
The Hibob platform, Bob, is designed to help SMEs create stronger and more connected teams – with tools that facilitate recognition, support career growth and put culture at the heart of daily operations. By giving managers the visibility and flexibility they need to keep the best talents, Bob helps modern companies to navigate the new realities of work.
